How to Solve a Case
A practical method for closing Whodit mysteries without guesswork.
Every Whodit puzzle has exactly one culprit. Your job is to eliminate impossibilities until only one suspect remains.
Start with the crime
Note the missing object and the sealed setting. Suspects, locations, and objects form a closed assignment: each person is in one place holding one item.
Read clues as constraints
Clues of the form “X did not have Y” or “X was not at Z” remove combinations. Mark them on a simple grid: suspects down the side, locations and objects across the top.
Use hints as last resorts
Hints are progressive. The first usually narrows a region; later hints may clear a suspect. Using fewer hints keeps the satisfaction of a clean deduction.
Accuse once you are sure
The verification API returns an explanation only when you are correct. Wrong accusations do not reveal the answer — return to the evidence board and try again.
